Aling-Aling Waterfall is the centrepiece of the Sambangan Waterfall Complex in north Bali — a network of five waterfalls connected by jungle trails and punctuated by natural water slides cut into the mossy volcanic rock. It is the most adventure-focused waterfall experience in Bali: guides lead visitors through the complex, the natural slides deposit you into deep pools, and optional cliff jumps await those who want more. The main Aling-Aling fall drops about 35 metres in a single curtain of white water into a large pool.
About Aling-Aling Waterfall
Sambangan village sits in Buleleng Regency, 15 kilometres southeast of Singaraja. The Sambangan River flows from the high volcanic interior, creating a series of falls and channels through a landscape of black volcanic rock and dense tropical vegetation. Local village guides have developed the circuit over the past decade and manage it collectively — the guide association sets prices and safety rules.
The natural water slides are channels worn into the rock by the river over centuries, smoothed further by thousands of visitors. They are not artificial or engineered structures. The longest slide is about 8 metres and deposits you into a 1.5-metre deep pool — an experience that requires a willingness to get moving fast and trust the guide's positioning at the bottom. Lockers are available at the top for valuables. Bring water shoes or sandals that will not slip off in the current.
Difficulty & Trail
The main Aling-Aling fall is accessible with a 15–20 minute walk. Full Sambangan complex with all 5 waterfalls, slides, and jumps is a 3–4 hour guided circuit. Water slides are optional — the walk alone is moderate difficulty. Minimum age for slides recommended by local guides is 12 years; cliff jumps are for experienced swimmers only.
