Munduk Waterfall sits at the edge of Munduk village in the central northern highlands of Bali, at approximately 700 metres altitude among clove and coffee plantations. The 25-metre fall is relatively compact by Bali standards, but the setting — cool highland air, a trail through working plantation, and the quiet character of Munduk village — makes it one of the most serene waterfall experiences in the island. Munduk is most naturally visited as part of a north Bali loop that includes the twin crater lakes and Banyumala, rather than as a standalone day trip from the coast.
About Munduk Waterfall
Munduk village sits on the slope connecting the central mountains with the northern coast in Buleleng Regency. The altitude creates a distinct microclimate: afternoon mist rolls in from the coast, mornings are crisp and clear, and rainfall is more even through the year than in the lowlands. The surrounding plantation agriculture — clove, coffee, cacao, and vanilla — is still active and forms the economic backbone of the village.
The trail to the waterfall passes through this working landscape, making it as much a plantation walk as a waterfall hike. Local guides offer to explain the plantation — this is optional but genuinely interesting if you have an hour extra. The waterfall itself sits at the base of a short gorge where the river drops over a basalt ledge. The pool is rocky and shallow. The air temperature near the base is noticeably cool, making it a pleasant resting spot after the walk.
Difficulty & Trail
A 15–20 minute walk each way from Munduk village centre, on a well-maintained trail through coffee and clove plantation. Some steep sections but no technical difficulty. Suitable for most visitors.
