Kanto Lampo Waterfall sits just 8 kilometres south of Ubud town, making it one of the most conveniently placed waterfalls in central Bali. Its character is entirely different from the tall single-drop waterfalls of north Bali: the Petanu River here spreads across a wide ledge of flat black volcanic rock, splitting into multiple sheet-like channels that cascade simultaneously over the stepped surface. In rainy season, when all channels flow, the effect looks more like a natural infinity pool edge than a traditional waterfall.
About Kanto Lampo Waterfall
The waterfall sits on the Petanu River in Beng village, Gianyar Regency — just downstream from where the same river feeds Tegenungan 15 minutes away. The flat volcanic rock platform that creates the cascade is a geological feature characteristic of the Batur volcanic system. The rock surface is black and smooth, polished by centuries of river flow.
The surrounding vegetation is lighter than the deep jungle of north Bali waterfalls — open riverbank with some overhanging bamboo and low ferns. This gives Kanto Lampo a more open, airy quality that makes it a good waterfall for casual visits rather than immersive jungle experiences. The main wading area is in the wide channels above the cascade — ankle to knee depth, relatively calm water, and dark volcanic rock underfoot that gives great traction.
Difficulty & Trail
A 5–10 minute walk from the car park. The path is well-paved. Access to the base and the top of the cascade is easy. Wading in the shallow water channels is safe and often the whole point of a visit.

Photography Tips
The multi-channel cascade is at its most photogenic in rainy season — shoot from downstream looking up to show all the channels simultaneously.
Long exposure (1–4 seconds on a tripod) turns the stepped channels into smooth sheets of glass against the dark volcanic rock — the signature Kanto Lampo shot.
Wide angle to capture the full width of the cascade; telephoto to isolate individual channels.
Get in the water at knee depth and shoot looking straight into the widest channel for a low, dramatic perspective.
The surrounding vegetation is sparse compared to jungle waterfalls — the fall itself and the dark rock are the main elements.
