Temple Etiquette: What Applies Everywhere
- + Sarong and sash required at all temples — usually available to hire at the entrance
- + Cover knees and shoulders
- + Remove shoes when entering shrines and prayer areas
- + Do not stand higher than a priest during ceremonies
- – Women on their menstrual cycle are traditionally asked not to enter inner courtyards — this is displayed on signs at the entrance
- – Do not point feet at shrines or offerings
- – No photography during active prayer or ceremony without permission
- – Non-Hindus cannot enter the innermost shrines at any Balinese temple
